Promoting Nutrition and Hydration

Duration: Half Day Course

Many individuals requiring care, in particular older adults, are at risk of dehydration and malnutrition. There are numerous reasons for this, but these conditions can often be prevented. This course enables care staff to recognise the features and causes of dehydration and malnutrition, and explores practical strategies on how to prevent these conditions.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Participants will be able to explain the importance of healthy eating and a healthy diet.
  • Participants will be able to explain the problems caused by poor nutrition and dehydration.
  • Understand food and drink in different cultural groups.
  • Develop an understanding of why people in care settings can become dehydrated and undernourished.
  • Consider practical strategies to support eating and drinking.
