Promoting Continence and Skin Care

Duration: Half Day Course

The high incidence of incontinence in the elderly, particularly those in long-term settings, means that older people are at increased risk of developing incontinence associated dermatitis and skin breakdown. This course explores the causes of incontinence, how care staff can promote continence and ways to deal with incontinence and skin irritation.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Participants will be able to describe the urinary system. ? Participants will be able to explain the causes and types of incontinence.
  • Participants will understand the use of a variety of continence aids.
  • Participants will be able to identify ways to promote continence.
  • Participants will be provided with information to help them deliver care to individuals that maintains dignity and wellbeing.
