Pressure Ulcers and Wound Care

Duration: Half Day Course

The elderly and those with limited mobility are at increased risk of developing pressure ulcers. In most cases the development of pressure ulcers is avoidable, and they are seen as an indicator of care quality. Thus it is important for care staff to be able to assess risk and prevent ulcers developing.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Participants will be able to explain what a pressure ulcer is and how they develop.
  • Participants will be able to describe the individuals who are at increased risk.
  • Participants will be able to identify risk assessment tools and how to use them.
  • Participants will understand how to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers developing and when to seek advice.
  • Participants will be able to describe normal wound healing and treatment of pressure ulcers.
