Bereavement and Loss

Duration: Half- Day Course

This course enables candidates to form a better understanding of how to deal with death, dying and bereavement issues professionally and sensitively. However feelings of loss and bereavement may also occur following any significant life change (such as moving into residential care). The topics covered are: loss, bereavement and grieving, different types of grief, theories of grief, the grieving process and its stages, signs and symptoms of grief, respect for the mourning of different cultures and religions, how personal loss can affect the way we support others, supporting the bereaved – what to say and what not to say.

Learning Outcomes:
  • For Participants to understand the principal elements of the bereavement process.
  • For participants to understand how they can support bereaved individuals.
  • For participants to understand how they can support bereaved relatives.
  • For Participants to have an understanding of the range of religious and non-religious practices found in a multi-cultural society.
